Elevation? ›

The elevation of a geographic location is its height above or below a fixed reference point, most commonly a reference geoid, a mathematical model of the Earth's sea level as an equipotential gravitational surface (see Geodetic datum § Vertical datum).

Step 1: Open Google Maps on your PC or mobile device. Step 2: Enter the address or location in the address bar. Step 3: Within the 'Layers' option in Google Maps, select the 'Terrain' layer. Step 4: Zoom in on the location to find the elevation.

Elevation is an emotion elicited by witnessing actual or imagined virtuous acts of remarkable moral goodness. It is experienced as a distinct feeling of warmth and expansion that is accompanied by appreciation and affection for the individual whose exceptional conduct is being observed.

The height and depth of an object are examples of elevation. A ball held 10 meters above sea level has an elevation of 10m, which is also the height of the ball. A diver at an elevation of 5m below the sea surface is then -5m deep below the sea level.

Elevation is distance above sea level. Elevations are usually measured in meters or feet. They can be shown on maps by contour lines, which connect points with the same elevation; by bands of color; or by numbers giving the exact elevations of particular points on the Earth's surface.

Google Maps comes pre-installed on most Android phones and can help you find elevation in certain areas. Open the Google Maps app. Tap on the Layers icon located on the right under the search bar. Choose "Terrain" from the menu and tap anywhere on the map to close it.

You can find your elevation on Google Maps by turning on the "Terrain" function. By default, Google Maps only shows elevation in mountainous areas — it doesn't report elevation everywhere. For more detailed elevation information, consider using Google Earth Pro.

As it turns out, along with being thinner, research suggests people worldwide who live at high altitudes have a lower incidence of both cancer and heart disease than folks who live closer to sea level. Note that these studies were done decades ago. We've known the health advantages of high altitude for a long time.

Areas are often considered "high-altitude" if they reach at least 2,400 meters (8,000 feet) into the atmosphere. The most high-altitude point on Earth is Mount Everest, in the Himalayan mountain range on the border of Nepal and the Chinese region of Tibet.

What does elevation look like? ›

An Elevation is drawn from a vertical plane looking straight on to a building facade or interior surface. This is as if you directly in front of a building and looked straight at it. Elevations are a common design drawing and technical architectural or engineering convention for graphic representation of architecture.

Home elevation refers to the structure's exterior design (front, back, and side). When building a house, you'll hear contractors and architects refer to home elevation. For example, a pro might show you two different exterior designs to choose from, referring to them as “Elevation A” versus “Elevation B.”

The Compass app shows you the direction iPhone is pointing, your current location, and elevation. Note: Your coordinates and elevation may not be available in certain countries or regions.

Find Elevation in Google Maps on Mobile

Once you see your place on the map, to the right of the map, tap the "Layers" option. In the menu that opens, from the "Map Type" section, select "Terrain." Then tap "X" in the top-right corner. Your map's view will change to the terrain view.
